Midway through his summer vacation, eight year-old Huddie Blaylock suddenly realizes the reason for his recent, nagging paranoia his normal, if slightly dysfunctional family has been replaced by imposters. Possessing the inflexible determination of the young and/or mentally ill, he embarks on a decade-long, cross-country search for the truth that will carry him through second-rate amusement parks, nightmarish nursing homes, 24-hour adult novelty shops and the wilds of Midwestern suburbia.

This is quite an interesting short story. It has a great deal packed into a short amount of space. We have a young boy; later the reader knows him as a young man. The chapters switch back and forth between the two.
If one doesn't pay much attention they may very well miss the true story of the human psyche within the pages. There's quite a story of the human spirit within. The novella is very well written with no wasted dialogue. It moves at a satisfyingly quick pace.

Among Wolves edition by Scott O'Connor Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Mr. O'Connor has a witty, offbeat take on life and relationships. His first novel is a freewheelin' ride down the fine line that separates childhood obsession from disturbing reality. This is a heartwrenching story of the struggle to find oneself and one's place in the world. Not since The Outsiders have I read such a gripping coming-of-age tale. Kudos!
Read this book back in 2004 in a modern literature class and I always love picking it up again. The clear narrative voice takes the reader on an interesting journey that peels back the skin exposing the vulnerabilities of the protagonist. One of the best novellas I've ever read.
This book never ceases to amaze me. I have read it countless times, always trying to find new meanings. It has really made me think about my life and the people in it and how much I should appreciate having them in my life.
This book was like some kind of addicting habit, like chocolate, I could not put it down. It was just amazing and funny!
I recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading absolutely great books!
This writer has the ability to write down on paper what I've always thought. A great short story that had me from the first page and that's not easy to do.
I loved Untouchable so very much that upon finishing it, I immediately checked to see what else he had written. I liked Wolves, I just didn't love it. Quite honestly, it didn't make much sense to me. Wasn't sure what was real and what was fantasy. Glad I read Untouchable first, don't know that Wolves would have made me seek this author out.
excellent, tight and moving
Amazing short story by an under appreciated author. He really illustrates how it feels to be an outsider.
